Alice T. Landon (nee MacKrell) 83, of Huntley, died Wednesday April 11, 2018. Beloved wife of the late William (Bill); loving mother to Patricia, Peggy, Eileen (John) and Alison; dear sister-in-law to Andy (Janie); and cherished grandmother to Chelsea, James and Joseph; fondly remembered by her brother Thaddeus, many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Alice was born in the New York, NY, and predeceased by her parents James F. and Mary MacKrell and her brother James MacKrell. Alice attended high school at St. Francis Xavier Academy in Brooklyn and went on to receive her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from St. John’s University in Queens, NY in 1956. After graduation, Alice taught elementary education in Levittown, NY.
On April 23, 1961, Alice married Bill, the love of her life, in Amityville NY, and together they raised Andy and their four daughters. In 1969, the family moved from Hauppauge, NY to Schaumburg, IL. In addition to raising her family, Alice’s career included 10 years with St. Marcelline’s religious education program. In her pre-retirement years Alice took on the rewarding role of an early childhood education teacher for the Children’s Home and Aid Society of Illinois.
Alice enjoyed spending time with her family and old friends, traveling, watching her grandsons play baseball, cheering for St John’s, going to Notre Dame football games, and volunteering time with St. Marcelline’s and St. Mary’s. She and Bill also enjoyed the great friends they made in their Sun City community. Together they played on the Bocce league and participated in Current Events and many other clubs and neighborhood outings.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday April 16th at the DeFiore -Jorgensen Funeral & Cremation Service 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley and on Tuesday, from 9:00 AM until the time of the 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. Mary Catholic Church 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley.
